On the Road with Lesbians Who Tech

Our On the Road series is designed to give audiences a front row seat to the unique challenges, intricacies and wins we’ve shared with our clients. Today, we’re recapping the Lesbians Who Tech conference, a 3-day experience and neighborhood takeover in the heart of New York’s Financial District.

In their own words, Lesbians who Tech aims to build pathways for mid-senior women, women of color and nonbinary leaders in technology, media, and business to have more economic power and access to jobs and leadership roles within all business, media, and technology areas.

Their annual summit is the crux of their work: a 3-day event featuring multiple keynotes, dozens of breakout sessions and hundreds of speakers. Staffed by high performers and even higher expectations, our work revolved around Pier 17: the East River perch that’s long stood as one of the city’s most head-turning venues.

Lacking the space for a marshaling yard or meaningful on-site storage, loading, setup and installation proved to be a tap dance, with multiple sponsors weighing their goals against the pier’s realities. While the largest allotted space topped out at 15’ x 20’, attendees had no choice but to work within the restricted dimensions, despite the fact that many of their exhibits required heavy, complicated or delicate technology.

Planning well in advance, we recommended portable, versatile, nimble componentry for our client, enabling them to set up their display within just hours—as compared to surrounding sponsors whose booths took as much as a day to unfurl. This not only saved time for our clients (and ourselves), but also helped to reduce a significant investment in freight and labor costs.

In fact, all of our clients materials fit onto a single pallet, helping to avoid potential storage, setup and breakdown complications created by the pier’s limited space.

The results? A highly efficient, highly effective event. The agile, lightweight construction of our client’s booth allowed for a swift setup and seamless last-minute swaps. Kudos to the organizers for an incredibly important, well-run event, and kudos to our client for believing in the Triple20 model.
